Choosey App FAQs

Answers, plainly put.

Everything venues and contractors ask us most. Still stuck? Contact Choosey HQ.

Choosey stands out by streamlining the matching process between contractors and hospitality venues, offering transparency, ease of access, and a reliable payment structure.

Choosey is part of the Clipboard Hospitality brand, specialising in connecting hospitality businesses with top talent to streamline staffing needs.

Payments for shifts are processed through Stripe’s secure system after shift completion and approval from the business.

Hospitality, retail and event businesses that need staff, and the people who want to work for them. That includes bar, floor, kitchen and event roles, from a single shift tonight to a full-time position.

It reads a worker's CV to build their profile in about a minute. When a venue posts a job, it compares the role with every profile and ranks the strongest matches by role, skills and experience. People still make every decision: the venue chooses who to invite, interview and hire.

Yes. Choosey is free on the App Store and Google Play. Workers never pay to use it. Businesses pay per shift or through a subscription for permanent hiring (see the Business tab).

Across Australia.

Your CV and personal details are used only to build your Choosey profile and match you with jobs. A business sees your full contact details only once you're connected to one of their jobs.

Yes — casual shift work through Choosey is sole trader status. You're responsible for your own tax, superannuation and insurance, and you set your own hourly rate.
No — permanent and part-time placements go straight onto the venue's normal payroll from day one. You're their employee, not a sole trader, with all the standard entitlements that come with it. Choosey's role ends once you've started.

Yes, contractors on Choosey typically have the flexibility to set their pay rates, depending on the role and the expectations of the hospitality venue.

Choosey uses a matching system that connects you with available shifts as soon as they’re posted by businesses.

Applying for shifts on Choosey is simple. You can browse available shifts that match your skills and location, and submit your application directly through the platform.

After you complete a shift and it’s approved by the venue, Choosey releases your payment within the agreed payment cycle, making it convenient and secure.

No. Casual shifts are sole trader work — you set your rate and invoice through the app. Permanent and part-time roles put you directly onto the venue’s payroll as their employee, with standard entitlements. Choosey’s role is finding and screening the match, not employing you.

An email address and your CV. Upload your CV and Choosey's AI fills in your profile in about a minute: your role, experience and skills. You just check it and confirm.

Three things: your ABN, a quick ID check and your bank details. We ask for these the first time you apply for a shift, so you can sign up and browse jobs without them.

Yes. One profile covers both. Pick up shifts while you look for a part-time or full-time role.

No. Choosey is free for workers.

The shift moves to My Shifts with a countdown to the start time. You'll see the venue address, dress code and everything you need to know.

Open the shift in the app. The Start Shift button unlocks 5 minutes before your start time. The timer runs for the length of the shift, and once it's done, your payment is processed.

Cancel in the app as early as you can so the venue can find someone else. Not turning up without telling the venue lowers your reliability, which affects which shifts you're matched with in future.

Go to Browse, then Placements, and choose Full-time or Part-time. Each job shows the role, venue, salary, location and type. Tap a job to see the full description.

Tap Apply on any job you're interested in. You can apply for any job, even if you weren't on the venue's list of AI matches.

Yes. When a venue posts a role, Choosey's AI may list you as a strong match. The venue can then invite you to apply. You'll get a notification and can accept or decline.

You'll move through these stages, and the app updates you at each one:

  1. 1. Applied
  2. 2. Shortlisted
  3. 3. Interview
  4. 4. Offer
  5. 5. Hired

The venue messages you in the app to arrange a time and place. Reply quickly. If you can't make it, let them know. Going silent counts against you; saying no politely does not.

Just decline in the app, ideally with a short reason. Declining an offer won't count against you.

The venue does, directly. You'll be on their payroll with the right award wages, super and leave. Choosey connects you but is not your employer and takes nothing from your pay.

Yes. For part-time and full-time roles, you need the right to work in Australia. You'll confirm this on your profile.

Yes, for eligible roles. With the 1% Hire bonus, Choosey pays you 1% of your annual salary once you've been in the job for two months.

Choosey isn’t a labour hire agency — for shifts, you’re engaging the contractor directly, and Choosey handles matching and payment. For permanent hires, Choosey runs the screening and matching, but the hire is your employee from day one, not ours.

It’s a structured brief that captures what the role actually needs — not just a title and salary. Candidates are screened and scored against it before you see a shortlist, which is why Talent placements come with a scorecard instead of a stack of CVs.

Every placement is backed by a 2-month replacement guarantee — if the hire doesn’t work in that window, Choosey runs the search again at no additional placement fee.

Casual shifts: 15% of the hourly rate × hours actually worked, charged when the shift is completed. Permanent and part-time placements: 5% of annual salary (pro-rata for part-time), charged only once the hire has started. Nothing is charged for work that doesn’t happen or a role that doesn’t fill.

Yes — the same account and the same talent pool cover both, and both show up in one pipeline.

Tap Post, then just say or type what you need, for example: "I need a head chef tomorrow, 5 to 11pm, $35 an hour, two years' experience." Choosey turns it into a shift post. Check the details and publish.

Matched workers are notified straight away. You'll see who's interested, ranked by how well they match. Select the person you want, and they confirm in one tap.

The worker starts the shift in the app when it begins. When the shift is complete, Choosey pays them instantly, so you don't need to run them through payroll.

Tap Post, choose Placement, then Full-time or Part-time. Describe the role by voice or text, and Choosey drafts the job for you, including a short description. Check the salary, location and start date, then publish.

You get two lists, each ranked by match score:

  • 1. AI match: people Choosey has found for you, even if they haven't applied.
  • 2. Applied: people who applied for your job.

AI-matched candidates' contact details are hidden at first. Tap Unlock your top 5 matches to see their full profile and CV and to invite them. There's no charge to unlock; you only pay when you hire. People who applied to your job are already visible and never need unlocking.

Yes. If you hire someone Choosey introduced to you within 2 months of unlocking them, the 5% placement fee applies, whether you hire them through the app or directly.

Shortlist the people you like, message them in the app and arrange the interview. Move each person through the stages as you go:

  1. 1. Applied
  2. 2. Shortlisted
  3. 3. Interview
  4. 4. Offer
  5. 5. Hired

You can always see who's at which stage and who's waiting on you.

Send the offer in the app. When the candidate accepts, confirm the hire. That's when the placement fee is charged. You can make offers to more than one person for the same job; the first to accept gets the role and the other offers close.

You do. They join your payroll on your terms and award. Choosey introduces you but is not their employer.

The 5% placement fee applies on every plan when you hire. Pay annually and save the equivalent of two months.

  • Upgrade: any time, and it starts straight away. You only pay the difference for the rest of the period.
  • Downgrade on a monthly plan: takes effect from your next billing date.
  • Downgrade on an annual plan: takes effect when your year ends.
  • Cancel: any time. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you've paid for. Refunds aren't given for unused time.

Add a card when you set up your account; it's stored securely by Stripe. Subscriptions, shifts and placement fees are all charged to that card.

In the app under My Finances, then View Invoices. Every charge comes with a GST tax invoice you can download.

Use Clarify a concern in My Finances, or email support@chooseyapp.com. We'll look into it and get back to you.
